The Aardvark Nature Reserve comprises 3400 ha of pristine Little Karoo landscape.  It is a proclaimed Biodiversity Agreement Conservation Area (CapeNature). 

This fascinating reserve lies in the Succulent Karoo, a desert biome with the highest diversity of succulent plants in the world, splendid bird, reptile, mammal and insect life, amazing geological formations, fossils, unique rock art and much more!   

The Little Karoo is a desert biome, with low winter rainfall.  Vegetation is scrubveld with a stunning diversity of plant life, consisting of a large variety of succulents and other veld flowers.  Even though it appears sparsely populated, it is alive with smaller creatures, ranging from rodents to mongooses, dassies, porcupines, honey badgers, Cape fox, caracal and the ever-present aardwolf and aardvark. 

Antelope species are represented by red hartebeest, kudu, springbok, duiker and steenbok.  No less that 183 bird species have been recorded.
